101 Rayon
vs. Polyester Thread: Which is the best choice for your needs?
Since most imported rayons are of inferior quality,
customers gravitate to polyester due to its strength and bleach resistance
features.
However, Robison-Anton rayons are of highest quality and in
many instances offer the user more versatility than polyester. To help guide you
in your choices, we offer the following comparison of rayon and polyester
threads:
Advantages of rayon:
-
Less machine wear and tear
-
Available in variegated and tweed colors – not possible in polyester
-
Withstands the 4A home wash test ( small amount of bleach)
-
Sews well up to 800 Stitches Per Minute
-
Excellent luster and rich appearance
-
Nearly all specified colors in the world are rayon. Polyester colors are
not interchangeable with rayon. Rayon has been the standard for 30 years.
Advantages of Polyester.:
-
Polyester withstands hotter temperatures and larger amounts of bleach,
making it excellent for active wear
-
Sews with virtually no breaks.
-
Will lie down as well as rayon without loops
-
Usually is less expensive than rayon.
Note that bad polyester will break needles, create snags
and adversely affect the garment itself. With the cheap Asian rayons that are
available, the biggest reason for using polyester is fewer thread breaks.
